The thistle chair
This chair is fashioned from a 5 foot 6 inch tall piece of elm wood from Pollok, where its owner (who's too shy to be acknowledged here) was brought up. The chair represents the tree of life. Six straps grow upwards to support the Govan Initiative logo and the Govan salmon, and to feed into the Celtic knot, which is taken from an 8th century stone at Govan Old Parish Church [Note from the editor to John McLaughlin - Dad, I hoped to impress you with my research for this web site by decorating it with this knot from Govan - I might have known you'd find it before I did]. From the top of the design grow six thistles.
