The Glasgow's Alive chair
The Glasgow's Alive chair is fashioned from a piece of Dutch elm diseased wood from Pollok Park in Glasgow. The tree was about 100 years old prior to being felled in 1992. The chair was made as a promotional piece for Glasgow to proclaim the city's ability to attract major conferences. The backrest depicts the history of Glasgow. It bears a ship whose name (Archie, for Councillor Archie Simpson) is etched backwards.
